Let the people know, that Empress Catherine the First ( Marta ) was from Latvia ( Livonia), and we want to start a new cultural, touristic and social tradition in her honor.

We believe in people’s power!

The main purpose of this project is to create yearly cultural events. To start a new touristic brand.

To attract more people to visit our beautiful country Latvia.

This remarkable woman, Empress Catherine the First ( Catherine I ), Peter the Great wife ( Emperor Peter I), was undeservedly forgotten.

Latvians could be proud of her, just like Germans proud of Catherine the Second.

Not only should we remember our history and be proud of it, but we also should do something for our present and future.

Marta’s Ball – we unite the past with the present to make the future.

The story of Marta is a true story of Latvians Cinderella. The life of Catherine Ii was said by Voltaire to be nearly as extraordinary as that of Peter the Great himself!

In 1724 She was officially crowned and named co-ruler by Peter the First himself in Moscow.

Catherine the First was the first woman to rule Imperial Russia, opening the legal path for a century almost entirely dominated by women, including her daughter Elizabeth and daughter-in-law Catherine the Great.
